Savor New York: Cooperstown

Road trip to Cooperstown, NY to visit friends. We visited the studios of artist Susan Goetz and Robert Schneider. Susan was working on a portrait of a child that was on her easel. The studios are combined work space and gallery space for both artists who are married. Her father was Richard Vernon Goetz, an accomplished artist and teacher. Her portrait commissions have included Barry Goldwater and retired Supreme Court Justice, Sandra Day O'Connor. It was a wonderful visit filled with stories of her father, and her own experiences with painting. Inspired.
Here is a link to an interesting article about the two of them.

Monoprinting on Handmade Paper

Good day. My annual summer jaunt to Norwich to make paper with June Tyler at Pondside Pulp and Paper had a new twist this year....monoprinting on the handmade paper we made! I made 8-10 sheets of handmade paper in the morning for printing on from a variety of pulps-kozo, blue jean, flax, and gampi. Because of the fibers, the paper is very strong even though it is thin. June advises that flax and blue jean pulps are better for woodcuts and relief printing, whereas the kozo and gampi are better for monoprints. We used Golden Open Acrylics , a new acrylic paint developed by Golden that stays wet longer, making it perfect for monoprinting. These were experimental prints. More printing tomorrow...

Experimenting in Painter

Experimenting in Painter. Original done in acrylic. Today I understood what Zina Saunders was talking about when she said she discovered digital painting....and threw away her brushes. Not quite ready for that yet....but it is fun thinking of the possibilities.
