Savor New York: Cooperstown

Road trip to Cooperstown, NY to visit friends. We visited the studios of artist Susan Goetz and Robert Schneider. Susan was working on a portrait of a child that was on her easel. The studios are combined work space and gallery space for both artists who are married. Her father was Richard Vernon Goetz, an accomplished artist and teacher. Her portrait commissions have included Barry Goldwater and retired Supreme Court Justice, Sandra Day O'Connor. It was a wonderful visit filled with stories of her father, and her own experiences with painting. Inspired.

Ken Lindsay

Initial sketch for a Joe Ciardiello-esque portrait and tribute to the late Ken Lindsay, a member of the art history faculty of Binghamton University and author of the monumental "Kandinsky". I had a Kandinsky seminar with Professor Lindsay.

IF: Subtract

I really want to work on a series of simple portraits. This started as a traditional watercolor and then I used the cutout effect in Illustrator--but it subtracted an eye!

The theme over at Illustration Friday this week is "Wise". Illustration Friday is a weekly creative outlet/participatory art exhibit for illustrators and artists of all skill levels.

Portraits

In an effort to give equal time to the rest of my brood, I am posting these two sketches of my twin daughters, Jenna, age 7 and Gabrielle, 7 months. I wish I had done them when they were the same ages, but, it was life in the fast lane....and then, there was Joseph,.. who is still waiting for his turn.

Nina Brooding. Sometimes one only has 10 minutes to sketch and try to capture something that you see in that one moment...If I had had a longer time (she wouldn't sit any longer) I probably would have overworked this drawing. This firstborn child is now 25...still brooding sometimes...but mostly just a beautiful, wonderful, funny, talented, gifted writer and human being.
